If you are purchasing some guns, you need to be sure you keep them out of the wrong hands. The best way to do this is to buy a gun safe. Before you start shopping below are two tips to ensure you purchase the right one. This way you will not have to worry about anyone getting hurt.

Opening the Safe

There may be times when you need to get to your guns quickly. Because of this you need to choose a safe that is easy for you to open  Most safes come with combination locks and even though those this will keep your guns safe, it can take a long time to open the lock. For example, you may forget the number that you chose for the combination lock.

A better way to open the safe is to use your fingerprint. When you purchase the safe, you will set up your fingerprint either at the safe store that you purchase the safe from or do it at home. The safe owner can help you with this. Once your fingerprint is recorded, you will place your finger on a scanner that will scan across your fingertip to determine if it is the one set up. If so, the safe will automatically open. If you have more than one person in your home that is allowed to open the safe, you can set up more than one fingerprint.

Another way you can open the safe is to use your voice. These safes are called voice-activated safes  When you purchase the safe, you will speak into a recorder. As you do this, the safe software will save your voice into a file. You will have to choose a word that will open the safe. For example, this may be something like "open" or you can choose a different word.

Dehumidifier to Prevent Rust

If you will not open the safe for long periods of time, make sure the gun safe you choose has a dehumidifier. If it does not, you can purchase a dehumidifier to add to the safe. A dehumidifier will prevent rust from building up on the guns. Rust builds up because the guns do not get any air, as the safe is sealed shut. Without air, humidity will build up, causing moisture on the guns. Mold can also build up on the guns if there is moisture.

In most cases, the dehumidifier runs on batteries and sits in a sleeve inside the safe. The dehumidifier is small enough that it will not get in the way when you remove guns.

Talk with a safe owner about gun safes. They can give you much more information about them. The owner can also show you other types of safes they have available if you have expensive things you would like to keep locked up.
